Masterclass content
This Masterclass consists of four blocks, each separated by a break and with opportunities for questions throughout the sessions.
Market structure: networks and services
There are no telecom services without networks, but also no revenues without services. Both elements are crucial in the telecom market. In this block we look at the existing Dutch networks, including a focus on the networks of the future – FTTH and 5G. We also look at the choices for providers offering services: fixed vs. mobile, consumer vs. business, direct sales or wholesale?
Market dynamic: participants and market shares
The top three players on the Dutch market, KPN, T-Mobile and VodafoneZiggo, are well-known, but there are many other providers active in the Netherlands. In this block we look more closely at the market players and their strategies. We also take a look at the market shares and compare the various sub-markets (fixed/mobile, business/consumer, DSL/fibre/cable, etc).
Market strengths
Using Porter’s five forces model, we look at:
- Suppliers: what kind of companies are active and what happens when they try to assert control?
- Customers: Where does the consumer’s power lie and what do they want?
- Competition: Is the telecom market especially competitive or not? What are the consequences?
- Substitution: WhatsApp is killing off SMS, which other services are at risk of substitution?
- New entrants: Which segments are newcomers targeting and what is the impact in a crowded market?
In addition, we look at two more issues that play an important role in the dynamic Dutch market:
- Regulation: The government keeps a close eye on the telecom market, but is it really strictly regulated?
- Consolidation: There is a long history of consolidation on the Dutch market, can more be expected?
Hot topics
In the final block, we look at the most pressing topics driving the latest market developments. These are the areas your company is most certainly focused on and customers are asking about.
